Arrival & Departure

Opening Day

Arriving at camp in an exciting day for both parents and campers. With that in mind, every effort is made to ensure that the process is as smooth and intentional as possible. On Opening Day, check-in will take place between 10:00am and 12:30pm. No campers or parents will be permitted to go up to the cabins until 10:00am. Any parents here at 12:30pm will be asked to depart, as we will begin our camp program shortly thereafter. Lunch will not be served to parents or other family members.

If your camper is flying in, or you are interested in learning more about having your son fly in, please scroll down to the "Airport Arrival" section.

If, for some unforeseen reason such as traffic, you are going to be arriving late, please contact our office at 828.669.8051 and notify the camp leadership what time you plan on arriving.

What to expect: Once you arrive at camp, your luggage will be unloaded from your vehicle at the front gate. It will be delivered to the cabin and will be waiting for you. After dropping your luggage, you'll go through registration in the Hangar, where you'll confirm skills, speak with the medical staff, receive a lice check and receive a letter and photo from your child's counselors. Once you've gone through registration, you'll go up to the cabin, help your son settle into his bunk, and meet his counselors. Once you've got him squared away, you are free to visit the clothing store (located in the Lake Lodge) but there is nothing left that is required for you to do. Give him a hug goodbye and have a safe trip home!

Closing Day

The Closing Day schedule is as follows:

10:45am - Gates open, parents begin arriving
11:20 - Lunch is served (for campers, parents, and family)
12:30pm - Closing Program

Closing Program will be held in the Hangar, just inside the front gate of Camp. Campers are not required to stay for this event, as we understand that many of you have a long drive ahead of you, but we do encourage you to stay if possible and your child is interested! Each age group will present their song and chant and it will give you a better understanding and appreciation for their time at camp.

NOTE: There is NO Closing Program for Starter Camp.

What to expect: You'll be met outside the gate on Yates Ave. where you will be asked to show ID so that we can verify you are the one supposed to pick up your child. You will receive any medication or unspent money back at that point. Once you pull into camp, you will be directed to your son's luggage, which will quickly be loaded into your car. If you are NOT planning on attending Closing Program, your son can jump in the car with you and you'll be directed out the back gate. If you are staying for Closing Program, you'll be directed to the parking area and then you can meet up with your son, eat lunch, speak with his counselors and hang out until Closing Program at 12:30. Once Closing Program ends (around 1:15pm), all campers and families will depart camp after saying final goodbyes.

Starter Camp

Airport Arrivals & Departures

While most campers arrive by car, flying into the Asheville Airport is common and often the best choice for some families. The camp does not assume responsibility for arranging transportation to camp, but we are eager to assist. Consult your airline agent for schedules. Your child will need to fly into the Asheville/Hendersonville airport (AVL). Campers should plan on flying in on the Sunday of Opening Day, and flying out on the Friday of Closing Day.

Campers will be met at the airport if we are notified in advance of arrival times. You may do this by filling out the Arrival/Departure Form online. All luggage should be clearly marked on the exterior for easy identification in the terminal. If your child is young, you may need to use an unaccompanied minor form, so that they will be helped by airline personnel. If you choose to do this, please make sure that you pay for this service, traveling both to camp and returning home as well. Check with your particular airline for rules/regulations concerning unaccompanied minors. Some airlines do not allow younger children to fly alone. If they request a name for the camp person picking your child up, please indicate Phil Berry, PO Box 279, Ridgecrest, NC 28770. You can give them the camp phone number for his number at (800) 968-1630.

Camp representatives will meet each child at the terminal, help gather their luggage, and transport them to camp. The camp will also transport the child back to the terminal upon departure, and will make all necessary luggage arrangements. It's a very easy process as long as we get the proper travel information from the parents.

If we have a large amount of campers arriving by plane, we may have to transport their luggage to camp in a separate vehicle at a later time. Therefore, his luggage may not arrive until the late afternoon. It would be best for your camper to carry a change of clothes or bathing suit with him on the plane to have easily accessible when he arrives at camp.
